    Son Of Wild AW14 Lookbook

Having only just turned a year old, contemporary UK-based menswear label Son of Wild are already creating ripples in the online fashion retail industry. Founders Jake Phillips and Tim Chapman come from early careers developing in the arts and have taken influence from the Middle Eastern textile design; therefore the design approach to their collections is highly print focussed. Combine that concept with America’s vintage garments and classic workwear with cleaner, longer silhouettes and as result – SOW is born. Simplicity in their shapes and unique statements in their design.

With SOW’s first collection for AW13, Fashion Design Solutions helped the brand in taking their initial step into the savage fashion industry by ‘assisting and lending their expertise of print and washing techniques, along with our quality fits, construction and fabrications.’

So, one year and 3 collections later I am more than happy to introduce their AW14 line.

This seasons release keeps to the unique and daring prints, yet infuses a more and earthy colour-way, making the seasonal transitions that bit easier for your wardrobe. If the granddad-style, woollen camel coats aren’t your thing guys, then SOW’s twist on this season’s must-have coat comes in the form of the thigh-length ‘Oslo’ coat. This is a staple piece to the collection and your wardrobe. Denim, double denim, even triple denim is set to be the trend of all trends for this winter! Therefore, where better to start than with the ‘Paris Denim Trousers’ with a slightly tailored fit and turn ups. Mix these up with the bold print or plain bombers and longline shirts or keep it casual with their printed T-shirts and cosy sweatshirts.

  • WEARING // layering with prints

    WEARING // layering with prints

Please excuse the awful state of my nails – this is what happens when you wear acrylics and work behind a bar in a pub.

Prints are a pretty big trend this season and so is layering, so I thought, why not combine the two!

The different shapes create layers around my neck and are of various lengths – the funnel neck and cropped Topshop top, the loose drape effect around my neck and thigh length the kimono and the structured collar on the faux leather jacket which is waist length work quite well when combined together to transform what would be pretty basic pieces alone to a relaxed but well-styled ensemble.

As for the kimono, this particular one was from H&M’s summer collection this year, and I literally wore it to death! I’m surprised it’s not falling apart after the amount of times it’s been through the washing machine, so I had to find a way to work it into my Autumn/Winter wardrobe. When I realised prints AND layering were in, this favoured kimono was back out from the depths of my wardrobe and it wasn’t long before I was experimenting with warmer pieces as opposed to dresses in the summer. I think this look would work with any printed kimono and does not have to be styled alongside a black colour palette, I personally just happen to have a love for monochrome pieces (heads-up: you’ll be seeing a lot more black and white-based outfits in the future).

  • WEARING // white party

    WEARING // white party

So this weekend I went to a ‘white party’. It was a pretty last minute decision to go therefore I didn’t have a chance to buy a new outfit, so I simply had to make do with what I had. Many of the girls wore bare legs and dresses which was absolute craziness considering the party was outside! I went for a simple and safe bet with white skinny jeans and a chiffon cami top, two pieces that I think are essential in a girls wardrobe. I paired the white colour with nude accessories and my huge, cosy camel coat. If I’m honest, I’ve had these nude heels from Aldo for about 4 years! They really need to be updated to a pointed heel without the platform if I really want to stay on trend, but they’re so comfortable that I can’t bring myself to replace them!

As for the lipstick, this is my favourite colour at the moment! It’s not too nude to make my lips looked washed out, but not too bold so that it can’t be used on a daily occasion. I paired it with the MaxFactor ‘Brown n Nude’ lip liner. They’re both really great quality and have long lasting wear, I only had to top it up a couple of times during the night.

  • Can Vaping Reduce Symptoms of Depression?

Can Vaping Reduce Symptoms of Depression?

Finding holistic health solutions for depression may not seem an easy task. Therefore, people who suffer nervous breakdowns are more likely to depend on smoking as a way to ‘ease the stress’ than others. Can this really work though? Read on to find out…

Over the years, there’s been an unending debate on the health implications of vaporisers and other smoking alternatives. However, one of the most important topics is regularly neglected; this concerns the effects of these alternatives to the mental well-being of a user.

    Research and Findings

Studies have shown that nicotine helps reduce the stress that accompanies a wide range of mental and emotional health conditions like Schizophrenia, panic disorders and most importantly, depression.

Since time immemorial, nicotine has been used in the treatment of several nervous problems. This is because when consumed, it aligns with certain receptors in the nervous system – hereby triggering dopamine, serotonin and many other neurotransmitters that are subsequently released. This helps to keep the user excited and elated – both of which are considered benefits.

More research shows that people suffering from depression and anxiety tend to be more addicted to smoking and find it hard to quit – as compared to those who smoke occasionally.

A survey conducted by the CDCP found that more than 30% of cigarettes smoked in America were consumed by people with emotional and mental health issues. There’s also a high percentage of people suffering from depression and other nervous disorders that are dependent on smoking.

However, many organisations – including some of the big names in tobacco – are introducing vaporisers, e-cigarettes and other NRTs (Nicotine Replacement Therapies) as a possible holistic solution or alternative to smoking addiction.

Although antidepressants and other drugs help with alleviating depression, dependence on smoking cannot be ignored. Sprays, patches, gums and numerous other aids reduce cravings for cigarettes, thereby helping them avoid the negative health implications of smoking tobacco.

Neeraj Bhardwaj, Chief executive officer of Loto Labs (a company that invented the first magnetic induced vaporizer) said: “Vaporizers and e-cigarettes release a vapour that doesn’t have the carcinogens contained in tobacco.”

He also added that “these alternatives should be considered a welcome development, because some therapy centres give patients gums and patches. Therefore, vaporisers should also be an option – especially for people in closed wards or those who have been rehabilitated at home”.

However, some institutes and organisations that deal with emotional and mental issues are not convinced just yet. Director of Media Relations at the US chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Bob Carolla, stated that the organisation has no standpoint as yet when it comes to alternative smoking tools. Nevertheless, he added that they are consulting experts in the field and also undertaking more research on the issue.

    Vaping as an Alternative

Although more research is needed to determine the effects of vaping on mental and emotional health, it’s clear that this can have various positive benefits. Therefore, there are many reasons why it can be considered as an alternative to smoking, especially for people suffering from depression.

Notably, one study showed that the number of vaporiser and e-cigarette consumers has tripled , while another carried out in Italy also stated that alternative smoking could cut down a person’s average cigarette consumption and also reduce their symptoms of depression.

With these findings and likely conclusions, one can assume that vaping can actually reduce the symptoms of depression without having any adverse effects on the health of the user.

  • Making Smarter and Sustainable Choices – Buying Second-Hand Cars

Making Smarter and Sustainable Choices – Buying Second-Hand Cars

When it is time to get a new car, whether it is because your old one is now unsustainable and expensive, or because you have a freshly acquired driving licence, why not think about just getting a car that is new to you: a second-hand car, in other words? You may wonder why you should choose to purchase someone else’s old vehicle, but there are a number of excellent reasons why you should, and they range from saving you money to helping humanity become more sustainable. Let us take a look.

How Will Used Cars Save Money?

As well as the saving you will make on the cost of the car, which is the first and probably the biggest saving – more details to follow – you will have a vehicle that is in good running order and unlikely to need any moving parts adjusted, as sometimes happens with new cars that have not been run in properly. You will also pay reduced road tax as this is pegged to the cost of the car, and if you have opted for a compact model or ‘green’ (electric or hybrid) you will pay even less as road tax is based upon emissions and environmental friendliness.

When it comes to the cost price, if you buy a used car from last year – or even this year – you will pay about eighty or ninety percent of the cost of the vehicle when it was new. This applies, even if you are buying an otherwise brand new car with only a few miles on the clock! In general, vehicles depreciate at about twenty per cent a year, and you can expect to pick up a two-year old car in perfect driving condition for around sixty percent of the original asking price – a saving that lets you choose a better model than you had originally planned upon, or invest in installing some extras so you enjoy your ‘new’ ride even more.

    Human Sustainability

As a species we are greedy and destructive and our appalling habit of discarding products that are still in perfectly good working order is aiding in the rampant over-use of the planet’s resources. Choosing a used car means that those resources are given a greater lease of life, and reduces the demand for new metals and minerals to be dug out of the earth, sometimes in a highly polluting and destructive way (although mines are trying to be more mindful about their activities these days).

Perhaps, by opting for a used car this time means that by the time you decide to invest in a brand new car for next time, you will get to be one of the first drivers of a type of environmentally friendly and sustainable vehicle whose mode of propulsion has not yet been invented!

  • How You Can Look 10 Years Younger

How You Can Look 10 Years Younger

Age is a funny thing. It can sneak up on you when you least expect it and even though you may feel young at heart and youthful, it doesn’t mean the exterior matches those sentiments. So, what can you do if you are starting to notice the signs of ageing and it’s making you feel self-conscious? How can you turn back the hands of time and reduce the signs of ageing? Here are some ways you can look up to 10 years younger, ranging from simple steps to more in-depth procedures.

Get a New Hairstyle and Colour

Sometimes, it’s as simple as changing up your look and getting a new hairstyle and colour. It may be that your current style is ageing you and doesn’t complement your style. A new haircut will put a pep in your step and modernise your look immediately. Be sure to book an appointment with an experienced stylist who can make recommendations on what will suit you best.

    Change Up Your Makeup Application

Makeup can also help you to appear younger; it’s all about choosing the right products and the application itself. As women age, the ‘less is more’ approach tends to work best. Heavy layers and thick products can sit in lines and wrinkles, emphasising them more. Opt for lightweight natural-looking products that highlight your features instead. As for the colours to choose from, soft neutral shades will help you to look fresh and youthful.

    Start Using a Facial Massager

There are all kinds of beauty gadgets and tools that are nothing more than a gimmick, and then there are those that work. A facial massager falls into the category of tools that can work. When you massage your face, you will be increasing the blood flow, which then prompts a heightened level of oxygen in your facial tissue. This helps to improve elasticity and add lift to the jawline. It also helps to sculpt cheekbones and even helps eliminate puffiness.

    Embrace Vitamin C

There are plenty of hero products out there that can combat the signs of ageing, but one that you don’t want to skim over is vitamin C. A vitamin C serum can do absolute wonders for your skin by brightening, tightening and even re-texturizing it.

    Consider a Neck Lift

One of the most telling signs of age is in the neck. People often treat the skin on their face well using skincare products that protect from sun damage, target the early signs of ageing and ensure you have proper hydration. However, the neck doesn’t always get the same attention. Before you know it, you can have wrinkles and sagging skin which is a tell-tale sign of age.

Neck lift surgery is something that the Bella Vou clinic offers its patients, and this procedure works to lift and smooth out the neck area, making you appear more youthful. But how much does a neck lift cost? The neck lift cost will vary, so it’s best to schedule a free consultation to get personalised information.

All of these steps can help you to address the signs of ageing and take 10 years off your face.

  • The Benefits Of Getting A Hair Transplant

The Benefits Of Getting A Hair Transplant

When it comes to getting a hair transplant, many people still shy away from the topic or even feel embarrassed about getting it done, but this should definitely not be the case. This will help at improving your overall appearance and will leave you feeling more confident in yourself and your appearance.

    Does away with balding

Hair transplants are extremely effective at filling in any bald patches that you may have and can make your thin hair look thicker and stronger. Getting a hair transplant will also prevent balding or thinning from occurring in those areas on your head again in the future. Low maintenance

Luckily, there is very little maintenance and upkeep involved once you have got your new hair transplant. This is a fantastic benefit and will save you a lot of time and effort when looking after your hair. Hair transplants require little maintenance, as the transplanted hair literally works like regular hair. This means that you will not have to use any special chemicals or shampoos to maintain the hair density and condition and can treat it as you would your regular hair.

    Permanent remedy

When it comes to getting a hair transplant, you will have faith knowing that it is permanent and will last you forever. Although other hair treatments that use topical or even holistic methods can offer great help with hair thinning issues, they are usually only semi-permanent. Whereas not only is a hair transplant more effective, but it is also a more reliable and permanent solution to balding and hair thinning.

In conclusion, there are a number of fantastic benefits that come with getting a hair transplant. So, if you have been considering getting one done now is the time to do so.

  • Choosing A Dentist: What You Need To Consider

Choosing A Dentist: What You Need To Consider

To have good dental health, it’s essential to take care of your teeth. While regular brushing and flossing are important, it’s also recommended that you should visit your dentist regularly. The dentist will examine your mouth to check out for any dental problems and potentially developing issues and prevent them from worsening in the future. It’s therefore essential to choose the best dentist to be assured of the best services that’ll promote good oral health. Below are some key factors to consider when choosing a private or NHS dentist:

    1.Reputation

A good dentist will always have a good reputation within a particular area. One example would be Wales and its capital. Looking for a reliable NHS Dentist in Cardiff is easy if you are doing your research. To know how reputable a dentist is, you can search online for reliable information. First, the past experiences of previous clients will give you a hint of how the dentist services are in general. While searching for this, if you come across too many negative comments, there are high chances that you might also not be satisfied. On the other hand, too many positive reviews signify that the dentist provides good dental services. Therefore, you should not stop here, ask for some contact information of some of their happy clients, and hear from them.

    2.Academic credentials

Be sure to select a dentist with the relevant academic credentials. Don’t just listen to what the dentist is saying about his credentials. Go ahead and ask for proof of the certificates to ensure his or her educational background matches with the profession.

    3.Area of specialization

Dentistry is a general field that involves many dental specialties. It’s therefore essential to ensure that you choose a dentist in the right specialty to get the right services. Some dentistry specialties are general dentistry, orthodontist, periodontist, oral surgery, endodontist, and aesthetic dentistry. Choosing a dentist in the wrong specialty is very dangerous and can result in other costly oral problems.

    4.Experience

This factor can never be underestimated when finding a good dentist. The number of years the dentist has been in operation is key. An experienced dentist knows how to undertake all dental procedures without hesitation, unlike an inexperienced one. Choosing an inexperienced dentist, especially for sensitive dental problems, can even worsen and be costly to adjust to the required levels.

    5.Provides various treatment options

It’s essential to select a dentist offering a wide range of dental treatments. This means that it’s easy to get more than one dental solution without having to spend time and money looking for the same service from a different provider.

    6.Ask for references

When you ask for references from your family members or friends, you’re likely to spend less time looking for a dentist. This is because you’ll get first-hand information from someone with experience working with that dentist. You’ll also know other important things like the total costs involved, flexibility, hours of operation, and general customer service experience.

    7.License

You should only choose a dentist who is licensed by the regulatory authority to operate in the profession. Licensed dentists usually work under some laws to prevent medical negligence. This way, you’ll be sure you’re dealing with someone keen when providing dental treatments to prevent injuries.

In conclusion, these are some top things to consider when choosing a private or NHS dentist. Others include expertise, comfort and cost of services.
